Using Mantra to Clear Mind

A big portion of the work I do is clearing subconscious beliefs.

I just might not always tell you that’s what we’re doing.

We are working on the thing that is holding you back from what you want.  Typically if you knew what the thing was holding you back, you would be able to do it on your own, hence the “subconscious” part.

As I am always my first guinea pig, I have spent years working on my own - and like a spiral, just when you think you are at the heart of it, another line appears.

My thoughts are that this will always be the case, because we get to a point that we think is “ok” for us,  what we are “allowed” to achieve. But we shouldn’t be limited by this.  This can be in health, in money, in love, or in a career.  I typically find there is one of these that is easy peasy, and one or more, that are NOT.

For example sake, let’s talk money:

If I asked you right now if you could make $250,000 in the next 12 months, what is your first response?  Some of you might be like, “hell yeah, done!” and others will be like “the hell I will!” - those are subconscious beliefs about your abundance that are either supporting you or holding you back.

And the “hell yeah!” one?  Now if I ask them if they can make that this month they might pause, or maybe not.  We all have our limits of what is possible and the goal is to push through those and open up to the next stage of possibility for us.

(For the record: if even reading those two paragraphs above annoyed you or you thought that I was shallow for the amount I chose, then those, my friend, are subconscious beliefs of your worthiness.)

Which is where the mantra HAR GOBINDAY comes into play and how to use mantra to clear your mind and heal subconscious beliefs about abundance.

The Har Gobinday mantra Benefits for creating prosperity, turning fear into determination and invoking guidance.

A mantra is a word or sound that is repeated continuously, for a set time frame, in order to aid meditation and quiet the mind by focusing on a simple word or phrase.

A mantra can also be a word or phrase that is meant to help you live that quality, alter your subconscious, habits and eventually the goal externally by finding more peace and removing what isn’t serving you.

This is one of the latter.

“This abundance mantra is to fix the mental to prosperity or power. It will produce money, it will come. Richness will come. Opportunities will come. It is a sound current which brings a shield, good luck, and removes disease and discomfort. It is a special key to the doorway of self-elevation. When you chant this prosperity mantra with the breath of life, it’s purposeful, it’s quick and it brings in what you need to bring in.”

– Yogi Bhajan’s quote

I have been doing this Har Gobinday chanting meditation for years.

I originally went to a Kundalini Yoga abundance workshop in 2015 and then shortly thereafter, I heard about it on a podcast – two women were discussing how they were planning on doing this mantra for 30 days, but they both ended up stopping because they got so busy that they couldn’t handle all the work.

I was just getting into coaching and also a regular yoga practice, so this appealed to me.   Plus, I wanted “abundance” so I started the mantra and I think I probably made it about 7 days before I stopped.  Not because I was so overwhelmed with the work per se, because it did work - I got a client or two and then I would shift to some other meditation or shiny object or whatever.

I’ve done this, honestly, for years.  This and one other mantra (om shree rama jaya jaya rama - for calming stress and used with my mala beads) are my go to’s.  I like their rhythm, I know all the words.

As a fledgling entrepreneur it appealed to me –  a big bill? Need a few more clients? start the Har Gobinday.  I always have the intention to do it for 30 days, but I don’t think (actually, I know) I’ve never actually made it to 30 days.

While I type this it all sounds so superficial, the equivalent of waving a magic wand.

And here we are again.

Last month, I felt called to start it up again.  I’m shifting my offerings and creating an in-person workshop (Any Las Vegas people hit me up, it’s going to be amazing!!!) with a colleague and friend, and want to call in the right people, so I turned to my old faithful, Har Gobinday.

And I had a revelation.

I’m sure someone said the words at some point, the meaning behind it, but I wasn’t truly ready to HEAR it until now, or actually DISCOVER it for myself until now.  I actually feel kind of stupid for sharing this – but I find that by testing of theories first on myself (1/3 for you in the Human Design world), is how I can later help guide others, and hopefully help you, not feel stupid in the process.

This mantra doesn’t bring in prosperity like a magic wand.  Yes, the spoken word shifts the sound vibration around us, but it doesn’t make it rain money.

The Har Gobinday mantra helps us be aware as to where our subconscious blocks are to the thing we want and allows us to shift them, to then do the thing which will bring in abundance.

I’ve never tested my hypothesis of my work load pre and post mantra - but I’m wondering if maybe I have more of an inclination to put myself out there, take some action while I am doing the mantra, which is actually the thing that is bringing in more abundance.

The mantra is:

Har Har Har Gobinday

Har Har Har Mukunday

Har Har Har Udaray

Har Har Har Aparay

Har Har Har Hariang

Har Har Har Kariang

Har Har Har Neirnamay

Har Har Har Akarmay

repeating the sequence for 11 minutes.  I add breathwork - pull your navel in and up while you say Har and make sure the tongue is touching behind the upper teeth on the HAR (which sounds a bit more like Hud).

Here’s the meaning behind Har Gobinday that I found and acknowledge, as I do not speak sanskrit.

HAR HAR HAR  is God as the creative infinity (the god within us, or our higher power) repeat 3x before each word.  I add a mudra (hand symbol in kundalini yoga).  Sometimes I do the “correct” one, but sometimes I tap while I repeat, or I tap my hands together like I’m holding a ball from the bottom to the top.

Gobinday - Sustainer

Mukunday - Liberator

Udaaray - Enlightener

Apaaray - Infinite

Hariang - Destroyer

Kariang - Creator

Nirnamay - Nameless

Akaamay - Desireless

I didn't quite understand how this combination created abundance until now…  I’m not creating a magical energy wave of abundance by repeating the above words (well maybe a little magic energy wave is ok).

What I AM doing is clearing (or noticing) my core beliefs by bringing them to light so that I may heal them.

How does Har Gobinday work? I am asking my higher creative power to sustain me, as I liberate and enlighten any beliefs that are holding me back.  In its infinite creative wisdom, destroy that which isn’t working, create that which would.  Allowing me to remove my ego from the outcome becoming nameless and desireless…

This time as I went into my mantra, it was with the intention of bringing clients to us.  So I noticed what blocks were coming up - in between the words I’d have a flash of awareness, a belief pop up, an emotion.

So I just noticed them, and when I was done I wrote them down in my journal to examine further.

And why can I never get beyond 8-10 consecutive days before I miss a couple and have to start all over? I think partially I’m getting to the heart of the wound and part of me, my ego, my saboteur, my monkey-mind, whatever you like to call it, but the voice within that likes that wounding, who attaches itself to my trauma to recreate it over and over and over and over and .. over again, thinks it’s protecting me.  It’s not.

It’s not protecting me/you and the future, I/we are creating.

It’s keeping us in the past, small and resistant towards healing our wounds.

Whereas discipline and repetitiveness gives you time to recognize your unconscious patterns, making them conscious.

Per kundalini yoga, the timing to break a habit is outlined below:

11 days – is infinity in the material world and it takes 11 days to break free from the entanglement of the mind and the physical realm.

40 days - breaks negative habits that block me from my possible expansion.

90 days to create a new habit in the conscious and unconscious mind.

120 days - positive benefits are permanently integrated.

1000 days - master the new habit of consciousness.

I think my subconscious mind is a tenacious little bugger.  I knew what I was doing, and though my best intention was always for the 30 days - I just naturally fell off. Or my ego was doing its best to convince me I was too busy, or too _______ in order to fall off of my discipline and it worked every single time.  Until now.

Now, I understand what’s happening and I’m creating a process around it to understand myself better and have the reasoning to keep the motivation, even when I don’t feel like taking those - what sometimes feels very long - 11 minutes.  Which is even funny to type, because that’s so ridiculous.

So, back to you, is there a new habit you want to create in your life? Abundance, prosperity and opportunities can be in health, wealth, friends, love… whatever it is that you want more of in your life.

Create the intention about what you want clarity regarding this new habit, then sit down, set your intention and chant for 11 minutes. Here’s a beautiful song that I sometimes sing along with.

As you do, notice what thoughts pop up in your mind.  Don’t capture them, just notice them.  If it brings up an emotion, allow it to move through you, but don’t stop.

Then when you are done you can journal what came forward for you.  At that point you can even do some tapping, or just notice what’s here for you now.

I’m committing.  I will get through my 40 days and notice what I feel on the other side.  Who knows, maybe it’ll be another 50 days?  (As of today I’m on day 30 — woohoo! I then took a two day break and will start again tonight. I pinky swear)

And what have I noticed from doing it for 30 days? A calmness. I often do right before bed, I’ll do a 10-15 min quieting and grounding meditation and then chant the Har Gobinday for 11-minutes and then go to sleep. I’m sleeping better and waking up clear headed.

What I do know is that when that resistance comes up - which it has - I just say, “I can do this. It’s important to me”. And so I do. Because I am worth doing the things I say I’m going to do. Period.

*Please note that I am not certified in Kundalini Yoga or any chanting or culturally appropriate usage of Sanskrit that allows me to own or think that I am an expert.  These are all my own thoughts, understandings and research. I am strictly speaking from my experience of using the mantra - which I was originally introduced to in a Kundalini yoga class for abundance. There are also multiple spellings recorded for the chant, these are phonetically sound for me and some say HAR 3 times and some say it 4 times.

Need support in helping you get through your blocks and/or doing the thing you say you are going to do?
