Are you in your Hero or Steward Phase?

Are You a Hero or a Steward? Or in Radical Candor language, a Super Star or a Rock Star?

Hero / Super Star:

- Comes in and saves the day.
- Focused on shaking things up, breaking things, and creating massive growth or change.
- Works towards promotion and personal and/or system growth.

Steward / Rock Star:

- Provides stability and grows steadily.
- Shows up consistently, building processes and creating incremental change.
- Develops a solid foundation and/or deep subject matter expertise (SME).

Most of us have a “go-to” style, the one that feels most natural to us.

However, there are pitfalls for staying in only one type:

Pitfall of the Hero / Super Star:

- Risk of burnout and uncertainty about the next step. You can't always carry the fire that a Hero requires.
- Concerns about being perceived as having lost their edge so always thinking, or taking, the next bold move.
- Coming in ready to make bold immediate changes, when listening and developing a plan might create more long-lasting impact.

REMEDY: Know when it's time to rest, regroup, prioritize and adopt a Steward's approach until the next push is required or optimum.

The Steward / Rock Star:

- Risk of becoming complacent and not pushing oneself enough.
- Labeling yourself as a rock star when you might actually be a STUCK star.

- Making a “safe” move, when a BOLDER move is required.

- Afraid to fail and/or make a big mistake.

REMEDY: Gain clarity on what bold steps are required in order to make the most impactful changes, and then take them. Notice if you aren't taking steps because you need to be the "good guy" vs what is best for the role.

Understanding and balancing these roles can help you navigate your career more effectively. Recognize when it’s time to be a Hero and when it’s time to be a Steward.

Remedy: Reach out to me or another coach to work with and be a thought partner on what the system needs from you now. Is it to make big bold moves, or slow down and be the steward?

We can help you sort through what are your beliefs, what are your blockages and then help hold you accountable to the changes you want to make.
